INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC REHEARSAL TECHNIQUES
Giving Your Band or Orchestra a Wellness Check
1 Credit Course, EDUC 53507
June 21, 2019 8:30am -4:30pm
Pollard Hall room 127
Have you ever had a doctor who was great at diagnosing the ailment, but unable to tell you why you became sick? Whether its intonation, tone, or technique, music teachers often lament about having to reteach the same concepts in rehearsal. Progress is slow, and time often runs out before higher level expression is achieved.
In this one-day workshop, participants will learn to focus on the cause of the musical problem, and not the symptom. Rehearsals become more efficient and performances more musical, because students take responsibility for their own musical wellness.
Kevin P. Bartram directs the University of Mary Washington Philharmonic Orchestra in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He has taught at all levels in the public schools, and his high school program was one of the finest in the nation. Bartram also teaches courses in instrumental conducting and coordinates the music education program. Bartram is past president of the College Orchestra Directors Association.
This is a 1-credit course.
